Okay so I'm only sixteen and very new to chickens but I'm having a problem. We bought 12 chickens, a mix of 3 different feed stores, and 1 is acting particularly weird. We have a Welsummer Straight run chicken that is 7 weeks old, she is loud and obnoxious when we pick her/him up, but she/he is the only one that is that loud. Anyway, sometimes when I pick her up she grabs her neck and squeezes? I have to either pry her claws open or set her down. Is this normal? Ive searched about this but didn't come up with anything. Does this mean its a rooster?

It does look like a Roo to me, and I think when you pick him up he's just afraid.

Thank you, and that makes sense! I hoped he wasn't a roo, we named him after my grandma because of how obnoxious she was haha guess ill have to change the name. THANKS AGAIN!

Well I'll grab his back and he would reach his foot up to his neck and squeeze. Freaked me out for awhile but he hasn't done it in about a week so who knows haha

Definitely a roo. This is what our wellie (pullet) looked like at 7.5 weeks:

And I agree that he was probably just terrified and trying to curl up in a ball. I used to have a parrot that did the same thing when scared.

Dang it looks just like ours, kind of a let down but hopefully he's the only one haha Thank You!

I had a roo that would scream like a little old lady when you picked him up, scared me enough to drop him. Wow. He never would tame down, so i gave him to a neighbor.
