Sunday we were doing evening chores and heard a huge commotion in the meatie pen.
Got over there, and a colored ranger had broken his neck. He'd gotten it caught in the door of the dog crate that I used to keep the four Cornish away from the feed trough overnight. (I've fixed the situation, and hopefully will have no more equipment related murders or suicides among the meaties.)
We dressed him out. He was 2 pounds 4 ounces whole, 1 pound 6 ounces dressed -- exactly the size of a grocery store "cornish game hen." Not as much breast meat.
It was very tricky processing a bird with a full crop and very full intestines. So if anyone is ever tempted to skip the fasting of the birds before slaughter day -- DON'T.
Planning to fry him up tomorrow.
