Sullivan

Thank you, your note means a lot

I have two ladies left, Lucy who is 13, and the young lady, Stevie who is 2 and Lucy does not like.

When I buried Sullivan Lucy tried to dig her up

I am 79 years old and hesitate to get anymore Ladies as I am alone and have many cats and 2 dogs wo are all seniors, like me.

My Ladies sleep in at night, because in 2014 raccoons broke into a secure outside coop and killed two. Lucy was in an area where they could not reach her.

I am so glad I found this site and again, thank you.
Of course, I had one of my chickens stolen and my other chickens were just so sad. They have tried to accept the new chicken I got them, but same with them. I think she might warm up to her now thst she’s her only company.

yea, that doesn’t seem like a thing you could do, your health is more important (even though we don’t think so sometimes🤣)and raccoons are terrible creatures. They suck.

me too! These people are great

How devastating for you and Lucy to lose Sullivan. I am so sorry for both of you. And, how heart-wrenching that Lucy tried to dig up her friend.

I understand not wanting to start over with young chicks, but -- and this is a long shot -- maybe you could find a more mature friend for Lucy? Of course, she might not take to any new companion, regardless of age.

And, if Stevie is her only choice, maybe Lucy will warm up to her, after a while.

In any case, while we are happy to have you here, it's awful that a loss brought you to us. Please keep us updated on how you and Lucy are doing. Take care.

Welcome to BYC. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Animals do grieve - your poor lonely older hen! :hugs I hope you enjoy your chickens, and that maybe Lucie will learn to like Stevie now!
:frow

So sorry for your loss. Belated :welcome :frowMaybe get her a couple of new buddies. Most birds are flock creatures. Good luck and have fun...
