Sulmet for ducks?

Is Sulmet safe (or beneficial) for ducks? I have a 2 mo old guy with cuts on his foot. I was looking for some kind of antibiotic to insure against infection. I have soaked him in epsom salts water, applied Neosporin, and keeping him quiet in bathtub. He won't put any weight on the foot. The helpful gal at the farm store suggested this as an overall antibiotic to have on hand. She also suggested bluecote which I started yesterday. Any other suggestions?

JoyAnna this is what i found Sulmet is benifical for I wouldn't use it to treat your duck for bumble.

Sulmet Oblets for the treatment of bacterial pneumonia, shipping fever complex, bacterial scours and calf diphtheria in calves; bacterial pneumonia, strangles and bacterial enteritis in foals. Each oblet contains 2.5 gm sulfamethazine. Dosage: 2 oblets per 50 lbs body wt the first day, 1 oblet per 50 lbs thereafter. Not for use in lactating dairy cattle or veal calves. Not for use in calves under 1 mo of age or calves being fed an all-milk diet. Not for use in female dairy cattle 20 mos or older. 10 day slaughter withdrawal. Light blue/green color.

Lets see if @casportpony is here with her expertise. I think if wanting an antibiotic I's go with Pen or Oxy tetracycline . Pen is for blood born infections.

Thanks Miss Lydia. The gal at the farm store pretty much agreed with what you offered. She mentioned it being more for things like pneumonia, etc. but we were talking to her about beginning to build a pharmacy for our ducks. She did tell us that due to some government nonsense, Sulmet was going to be difficult to obtain. Does the blue Cote sound adequate? Right now the cuts have not gone into bumble foot, and the soaking has loosened the scabs. I just wanted to prevent any infection from getting started. I think I got him in soon after it happened. I want to get him healed up so I can sell him and his other 3 drake-mates soon. He is a beautiful all-WHITE Ancona.

He sounds beautiful, and yes Blue Kote is good for injuries and stays on a long time too. soaks with Epson salt like your doing is helping to that is good.
