sulmet overdose?

Quote:
Unfortunately Sulmet can be dangerous to use if used in excess or overdosed even a little. Most people do not know that and think more is better. It can crystallize in the liver and kidneys and is life threatening when that happens. I don't know of anything that can reverse the damage once it does happen. I would call the company and ask what to do at this point because it sounds like that is possibly what you are dealing with.

There is a product out there called Baycox by Bayer and it is excellent and safer. It is a little spendy at about $105 a bottle but it goes along way and it can safely be used on babies (safe even up to 4 times the recommended dose - I would not suggest overdosing but it wouldn't be life threatening if it accidentally happened).
You can google Baycox and find out where to get it, or PM me and I will tell you. (It is not available in the states.)

I am really sorry about your girls. I know this can happen because it happened to a pullet I had a couple years ago, and I did loose her.

Keep us posted and good luck,

it does not make sense to me either. my two weak birds seem to get everything. our most recent poo sample came back with large amounts of cocci. the vet recommended treating.

i am in a wet, redwood covered part of northern california. the ground is always wet and we never get full sun or a freeze. our chicken vet explained it to me as stuff keeps growing and nothing ever dies. i also have a neighbor who does not take good care of her chickens and our birds free range in some of the same places.

I have used baycox in the past and it worked great. i decided to use sulmet this time because i had the bottle. i called pfizer earlier this afternoon and they were useless.

i have only had chickens for three years and i am still learning (and making mistakes) every day... thanks everybody for the help!
