Sulmtalers Thread

Almost 2 weeks old. They are changing fast. Getting big too! I dont see the definate dark line on any wings yet to indicate rooster. What do yall think?

I havent gotten to the point yet of selling, mine are only a month old. I think a lot of the problem is that they are so new, not a lot of people know about them and there is not a lot of hype or "marketing" going on about them. I started the facebood page in hopes of increasing interest in them. We have members there from the USA, the UK and the Netherlands. Both those countries have a Sulmtaler club and they show their birds in the poultry shows. I can imagaine if I was trying to sell mine right now I would be in the same boat as you, and as you can see, this thread has been pretty much dead for a while. I am impressed with these chicks, they hatched strong! Have great personality, are calm and friendly. I think it will just take time for the craze to hit like it did with the cream legbars, they have a club now and have done a lot of work to promote their breed.

You are probably right, but it pains me to waste eggs. I don't eat eggs and I know what I paid for these birds... not to be tacky, but even eating these eggs seems sinful. LOL. I put up an auction on ebay and really have the price set just about as low as any other dual purpose bird... 11 hits after a week online. That is my new record for worst ebay listing... I have sold on ebay for the better part of a decade and sold hatching eggs for the last 3 or 4 years on there. I don't know if it is the economy or what... I hope you are right, though. I don't expect hundereds of dollars per shipment of eggs, but I would like them to actually sell and not just get collected and given away to my mother to eat.

I talk about the Sulmtalers just about every time I post in the various threads on here, bragging about how wonderful they are. Everyone is usually having to Google them to see what they are. We really do need to start a club and the handful of people on here get to talking Sulmtaler, the more active this thread is, the more it stays on top on the home page. When the cream legbar club was first organizing their thread was always on the home page and that attracted others to look at the thread and saw the excitement about the birds and they wanted some.

I did a review yesterday, and late night I had a member asking if I have hatching eggs! Wish I did, but mine are still chicks.

I just submitted my review.

I noticed the same thing about sales. I have a couple classified ads up for eggs, chicks and started birds and rarely get any interest in my Sulmtalers while the other breeds I raise sell. It is unfortunate that Sulmtalers have not caught on yet, but I think they will when the public realizes how nice and versatile they are.

Hi everyone.
I do not have any Sulmtalers yet but I am looking into getting some, in the next year or two, along with some American Bresse (black and white). I love the coloring of the Sulmtares, and the Bresse and would love to try helping to expand the breeding stock. Although my primary intention is to raise for family and possibly sell at the small store my future FIL is building, and should be opening before too long. I am working on caponizing my hatchery stock cockerels (still doing research and getting the tools around along with practicing on birds I've processed), and will be doing this with the bresse, maybe the sulmtares, depending on how things go.
Now I did notice the last few entries and while I wish I could help right now, I want to have at least 2 more coops and for my special breeds before I even think of buying these beautiful birds.
I do want to ask, how is their temperment? I have a young (7 yrs old) son and we plan on more children. So ANY birds I look into buying need to be of a fairly pleasant disposition, for the most part (I know it can differ from bird to bird just like any animal).
