Sulmtalers Thread

What do these chickens look like? What an interesting name. Where do they come from?
Thanks,
karen in western PA, USA

Unfortunately I don't have pictures of my own grown up, because mine are still chicks. They are wheaten in coloration with a very small crest. They are from Austria and are even rare in most of Europe. They say their meat is a delacacy. We'll see with time!

Greenfire imported them and Widget Creek Ranch (which is where I got mine after having a order in with Greenfire that after 5 months never got filled). Two lines... so there is hope for them in the US. Here is the feathersite page for them http://feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Sulm/BRKSulmtalers.html

My, they are pretty birds~ Wheaten is one of my fav poultry color palettes.
Thanks, Karen

Mine too, Karen. I have had wheaten Marans and Penedesencas. I work on a project (very slowly working that is) that is of wheaten origin but is not a true wheaten... think wheaten, but partrideier (I just made it a word lol)

Here are some pictures of 2 and 3 day old Sulmtalers that I hatched from the eggs I bought from Widget Creek Ranch , their are also 3 more that hatched today that are still in the incubator.

They look so healthy! I got mine out in the tractor now and looks like 4 boys and only one girl. I got some more from Widget Creek and just set them the other day... too soon to candle still. Fingers crossed for all females on this run! *yeah right, right?*

At least with that ratio, it won't be long before I get to taste them against other breeds. See if they really are tastier.

How old our yours? I'm also really interested to find out if they taste better, and the same with my Black American Bresse from Greenfire Farms. I hope you have good luck and get all females

I just found this thread. I have two Sulmtaler pullets 5-6 months old purchased from Greenfire. One of them just started to lay, but I since I do not have a rooster I have my girls in with my Crele Polish roosters. Anyone have any roosters available?

I will post pictures of my girls tomorrow. : )

If I can't find a roo, I think I will end up selling my two girls. They are 5-6 months and atleast 1 is laying and the other is right behind. Wonder what a fair price would be. Thoughts?
