Sultan Rooster attack

Ahh the Chicken Whisperer :bow   This makes total sense just like with a dog his mother would pin him to put him in check. Think this would work with an evil hen or is there another method for hens.
Really loved this suggestion because you are redirecting him with something that he understands. My now not with us roo would attack me the last time I chucked my shoes at him and I was bent down as I picked up the shoes to chuck again yelling at him, he may have thought I lost my mind but he never attacked again and stayed completely away.

He's like that now. He gets the hens to not get near me, too. Then when I get him out of their sight they let me pick them up and pet them. I do want to hold hem though.

I never thought of a chicken as an animal that would have so much personality.

We have one that we call Gabbie she just talks and talks if I am out in the yard or if she hears me in the sun room she will start up, wish I knew what she was saying.

Then there is Floppy she likes to get on top of the coop so she has to be taken down and carried in at night.

Rachel now has her own yard and quarters she is evil so is segregated from chicken society now we can pet her and love her.

Speckles has always been a sweetheart she loves to be picked up and loved. , she used to peck at our shoes till we did so.

We have The Escapee who taught the rest how to get out of their yard by flying up on the green house and flying down into the yard.

Then there is Phoebe who laid 2 eggs this week a wonderful thing for her to do since she has only laid 2-3 eggs since April last year she too is a sweet girl as long as her sister Rachel stays in lock up together they are evil.

Would like to have a roo again but we have Rachel who thinks she is the roo now when she gets in among the others. She has taken to thinking that I am the roo and will squat when I enter her yard too funny I scratch her back and she shakes her feathers and wanders off. They are so very entertaining more than I expected I only wanted eggs.

I love Roos!!! I love their character and their dedication to MY flock.
I've had to duke it out with both Roos I have owned. I'm a holder and not a pinner (just preference). In fact, if he gets feisty, then he gets to join me in the crook of my arm while I do my chores. In fact, I think he gets his feisty up sometimes just for the ride.
I have no desire to "tame" him as we have chicken hawks and raccoons in the area. He does his job well! Point bring... He IS a rooster. And a rooster is here to protect the ladies, a "tame" rooster is worthless in this regard. I am happy to settle for mutual respect... Teamwork! He warns and I chase the coons off with a big stick!
Then we do a high five..
...until he gets his feisty up;)
Everybody has a bad day now and then!

I don't have him anymore. He's passed away. He passes like March if last year.

I have 13 hens (various breeds) and 6 roosters, 1 sex link, 1 modern game and 4 old English game. They are all 8 months old. I raised them from 1 day old. Today one of my old English roos attacked me. I had just given everyone corn on the cob and was sitting down on the patio. He came alone, looking for me, which isn't unusual, as they will come to sit on my lap. I reached down to pet him as usual and he flew into me, clawed my arm, hit my lip, and went for my leg. I stood up, totally stunned, as he came at me again! He went for me and I put my foot out to stop him, but he was furious and clawing me. My next move was to kick the s*** out of him which I did! He flew about 10 feet and came at me non-stop. I kept kicking him, belting him a good 8 feet, but he kept coming. I decided I would take the offensive and started running at him (needless to say I was ****** off at this point). I finally ran him a good 200 yards. He left me alone for about 10 minutes and then came back for round 2!!! I have 2 german shepherds who were with me, but they didn't do anything as they are taught to protect the chickens. I started yelling at the roo and was very tempted to get my shotgun and put an end to this. I have 5 grandchildren. He then started going after the hens and the other roos would protect the hens and chase him away. Is this crazy or what?????? Has anyone ever heard of such a thing happening like this??????
Thanks. I'm still pretty upset over it. I'm probably gonna dispatch him if he does it again. Wow!!

Hi, I just read your post and I've had a rough day with one of my roos. He attacked me today. Not lightly but hard. I've got a fat lip, bruises and cuts. I agree with you regarding the roos which is why I have them, but I've never had one attack me. He went nuts. If he does it tomorrow, I'm giving very hard thought to dispatching him as I have 5 grandchildren who he would have done some damage to. My others don't act this way. It was crazy. I love roos as they do protect the flock, but crazy is as crazy does, and there is no room on my place for a guy like that! Wow! I'm glad I'm not the only (as crazy as that sounds!

I would get rid of him immediately. Roosters like that DO NOT need to be around children.

I agree cull him, we had a roo that went crazy like that to me just kept coming, a pic flashed in my head of him going after my Great Niece who likes to sit with the hens being jumped like his initial attack. He got the hatchet right after I pinned him down. You don't need a roo like that.

Wow I am a first time chicken owner and I remember this aggression as a child from my grandparents chickens. And was always scared of them. Now I have a few rooster and hens more hens then rooster. Now I am scared with all these stories. WOW! My chickens are 15 weeks old.

We have silkies hens and 2 sultan rooster all about 5 months old and yesterday when my husband went to pick up s silkie hen one of the sultan peck his hand second time. I am wondering are Rooster sultans mean generally. We have these to 2 Rooster since they were babies. What can I do to tame them?
