Sumatra Thread!

I dIdnt know you could get a silver or gold blending in the feathers. I have a hen who has a big brown sickle feather, I want to breed her with the cockerel Up top. If I can selectivley breed brown do you think there's a chance of it becoming a standard colour ?

What's your top three favourite breeds?
In our one hen, it was maybe as wide as the quill and maybe an inch long, just a small red streak in the feather. In one of our original dun hens, she had some red peeking through around the hackle by her face. I haven't had any birds as red as Raphs though but we did have a sumatra x easter egger that looked exactly like that rooster, we called it a "flaming sumatra" because he glowed like he was on fire.

My mum was trying to tell me to call them flame sumatras but I thought it sounded a bit tacky, so I thought igneous sumatra sounds better.

I'll post some pics of my nicest fowl size hen and see what you guys think she seems like a good quality hen.

genetics. Just how it works. Breed black on black and expect at least 20% to be blue.
No..

Earth genetics just dont work that way, not even on recessive genes, the Blue found on Sumatras is the same andalusian blue found on just about every other chicken breed in the world, now I know Sumatras are not your normal chickens, Yet they still have to follow Mendelian's Laws, not only them, but every living organism alive.

so unless I'm missing something here, like a weird blue recessive gene, dont expect 20% blues from black to black mating.
