Sumatra Thread!

My Sumatra hen taking care of her chicks. She is free ranged so she visited all the roos.... Next year, all the sumatra will be housed together so she won't be able to be so frisky. But, she's a good mom.

Hi everybody,I haven't got any Sumatras yet but I totally love the breed and might get some next year! Could you please answer some questions that I have about the breed?

Okay,I appreciate any kind of help.

Are they cold hardy? Heat hardy?
What color varieties do they come in that are recognized? Noy recognized?

I've done a lot of research on them but I couldn't find the answers to those questions.
Again,I appreciate any help! Thank you!

We live in Washington state, close to Idaho, and we get all four seasons, Ours do very well in the cold, but they do seem to love the heat as well, they do spend the heat of the day under the shrubs and under trees staying cool though. The most popular colors are black and blue and splash, Black and blue are recognized by the APA in both Large Fowl and bantam and also in the ABA. I know they come in Dun and White, I am sure people have worked on other colors but haven't seen them. Hope that helps, they are my favorite breed by far! Good Luck
