Sumatra Thread!

Just curious, anyone else notice their broody sumatra hens cover up the nest with bedding/feathers when they get up to eat? I noticed one of the broody hens does this every time, just like a pheasant. I have never seen any other chicken do this before...

Is that the bantam in the barn? If so, please take those away from her, she has been on those to long, I can't wait to be home! by next Monday.. Yeah!!

Here at the show, this is why I don' like my sumatras to be to tame, first pic is how she looks all calm and second is how she looks when its time to judge. She will pace a little but not to crazy, just gets excited
Wow she looks amazing in the "excited" photo! We were taught at 4H class to crate train the chickens for a month prior to the show so they don't stress. What do you suggest to do? We are still learning.....

Thanks, I would crate train, but not overdue it, Get them comfortable with it, Once we bathe though we don't handle them, they are in a larger cage for about 5 days before the show and we only feed and water. Then at the show, we only handle to put them into cages and feed and water, at home they are more flighty and crazy when they are loose in their pens or out in the pastured area and act more wild, once caged they get nervous, but don't scream and they pace in the cage but don't fly up and around acting crazy, just takes time to see what works best for you and your birds, I like it when they get nervous and display as you walk up, but not overly crazy, like outside where they scream and try and fly.
