haha, yep some people do crazy things for a dime...

These I have are mainly cross blend of various breeds of longcrower, most are Tomaru based, from Will Lawrence. I also have one of Toni Maries last import denizli hens with a 3/4 denizli male. Working on breeding back to them.

The best right now hold at 8-12 seconds, though this denizli line should push 20-30 when finished I hope. Just like in log tailed breeds, some just get better than others. With them, I've learned that the younger they start, the worse their length tends to be. You generally want one to start longer crows later on than at and early age. Just got all these last summer, so plan to really get a good start working on them this spring... should be putting out some really good birds before long. You want a big deep chest too on your better males, basically a bigger chest = greater lung capacity, which allows for longer crows. also when they crow, you should see a good male actually throw his head forward a bit as he does it....

Have you seen the death metal rooster on youtube??? That's a denizli. If you havent seen it yet, google it up...it's a blast. The clip is 33 seconds long and he crows 28 or so of it..so yep, a real one really does do it long..

A few pictures of my birds.

This is one of the Black hens penned with my Platinum cockerel.

I plan on penning this hen with him after I've hatched all the pure Sumatras I want, she's an Olive Egger, I think it would be cool to work on a Dun colored olive egg laying bird.

I was talking to a non-chicken friend about sumatras the other day and was telling them about sumatras and how the sun helps the faces darken and all that. Then she said something only a non-chicken person would say- "So they basically have a really bad sunburn on their face". It made me laugh and looking at it from their view, it does make sense. I just had to share with everyone

My first Sumatra chick hatched early this morning! It was too wet to tell what color it was earlier but I'll see if I can get a picture when I move it to the brooder. I'm so excited!!!

same here Jeremey, been hatching a few from the dun project for a couple weeks now, glad to finally be getting them. The black/blue pen just started to lay today!!

That's too good, havent thought of it that way, but yep, sounds like a sun burn to me!! haha

Your black hen looks great, I have been noticing some sumatras have the square tipped feathers and never really noticed it until I was looking at my birds. Our first sumatra eggs will go into the incubator this weekend. So far I have been getting two eggs a day from the bantams and largefowl. I know for the bantams it is a black hen and a blue hen laying and the largfowl is the dun and a black.

My splash should start laying soon. When the time comes should I put her in with a black or blue Cockerel ?

2 broody's already this year.

The first chick out is either Platinum or Blue, I can't honestly tell with it in the incubator. I'll try to get some photos tonight when I take it out, there is another egg pipping right now and I don't want to open the bator until it's out too.

Thanks!

I've noticed that about their feathers, why are they shaped more square?
