Sumatra Thread!

two blues hatch last night and more are coming!!!!!

I know you can create a blue egged Sumatra by crossing to a blue egg trait bird
but I was wondering about the sumatras that were the line laying the blue eggs.
Were they an odd line of pure sumatras or were they an outcross to create them?
If they were a pure line, has anyone tried to bring back the line?

no. She is a blue hen, 4 years old. The egg is blue. If I can get pics I will.

While 13 is nice I would not be happy with 13 out of 4 dz set.
I'd be trying to find the reason for a low hatch rate.

I must have missed that part. What I meant was I would be THRILLED with only 1 black. The best rate I have gotten is 60% blue 40% black. Usually with my flock it is the other way around, and yeah once in a great while a nice little splash

Ya I dont know what happen they where dead when I cracked them open to see what was wrong. my incubator does notwork very well but getting a new one!
