Uggg really forgive me looks like I m crazy....well.a liile anyway.just trying to figure out how to do this on a phone instead of computer. I will usually look them over a couple months before for broken feathers and pull if needed feed a little extra protein ...5 days before bath and start on vitamin water day of apply some vet rx on face and feet use a softcloth and smooth feathers ...auto correct is driving me crazy lol hope this makes sense

I hope you don't mind me giving you my strategies. I clip the beck and toe nails. Then I rub olive oil on their face, comb, wattles, and shanks with a regular rag. I use the air spray horse conditioner for the feathers and rub it in with a silk rage to make their feather really shinny. I personally do it right before the judging starts. But some people do it the day before judging starts.

You do all this right before you coop in? What do you do to condition the bird the rest of the time/year?

I'm just trying to figure out all that folks are doing to get ready for a show.
When I showed horses I was always grooming to keep the coat in a soft,
clean and shiny condition.......pretty much a daily thing....not just before
a show. About two weeks before the show a touch-up trim on hooves
to neaten up edges but have them looking natural and about a week before,
any clipper work on bridle paths, a bath the day before to remove dust from
the skin and whiten any markings......but that was horses....not birds. I have
not shown birds.

I can understand pulling broken or damaged feathers but how
do folks keep the feathers from becoming tattered and ragged
edges? free ranging is not an option for me because of two
legged predators.

Yes I did see this and it sounded like this is what you are doing shortly before a show.
What are you doing with the birds the rest of the year to keep them in showing condition
or do you keep them in show condition year-round?

I am asking this of any who would share what they do with their show birds. I don't show,
as I said before, so I don't know what all is involved in this. I kept my show horses in show
condition year-round and just did touch ups a little before any shows we went to......is that

New to showing but year-round I gave my pair a protein rich diet. Also I made sure they had plenty of room, in the beginning I thought they did but then I noticed my hen stepping on the rooster's tail making it raggedy. I also had to change pens as he would tear his tail up in the wire when he turned no matter how much room I gave them. This worked for me, not saying it will work for everybody.

Oh! I think our plans are open as far as shows go. For sure on the pnpa show and puyallup open possibly. Are you going to any?
