Sumatra Thread!

Is there anyone in CT or MA that is selling blue Sumatras?? I just want to add a couple decent blue pullets to my breeding flock. I've been looking for anywhere within a couple hrs drive from me and having no luck!:(
Tom ships and will have pullets for sale in the fall if you want to wait. I was at his house last Monday to pick up some birds that he transported for me from Ohio. He only had 1 show male, a lot of cockerels he had to sort Through and see what he is keeping and his breeding hens that he wouldn't let any go. He hatched so far 150 or more LF, so he will hopefully have a lot in the Fall for sale.

That's awesome you got to go there, I'm jealous! That must have been quite the experience going there and seeing his operation and all

Ok this is now "new" I am. New enough to not know any breeders other than the one we got my daughters chickens from. Who is Tom?

She would like some Blue's to go with her Blacks.

ya I have been to his house lots of times. His set up is amazing and his flock is awesome, I don't know how he picks which bird to bring to a show because they all look amazing. He picking me up some bantam and LF Salmon Faverolles eggs an a trio of LF from a breeder I contacted to get from.

Is this a Sumatra cross rooster? Or if not, any ideas what kind he is?
I like your bird, very handsome:

I am no expert on Game Birds (total noob on them)... but I have been looking at lots of them... the white earlobes really stand out on this bird, usually, his colour Deep Red reminds me of the American Game line called Clarets but he lacks the white puff that is usually present in the tail (I am sure there is a technical name for the exact feathers, they are the same feathers that are white on the Red Jungle Fowl), Here is a Claret see the similarity and differences:

The next bird is a black breasted Rosecomb... which again is close but not your bird I think... note the Rosecomb lacks the white puff...

I did some poking White Earlobes & Game Lines and yes they do occur in game lines, they have always been present in many different American lines, a few breeder/owners like them but most do not that keep American Game as they where taught to consider it a sign of non-game in a bird, but me poking about indicates that is very untrue. So they do occur. here is an American Game "Stag" with white lobes:

The next picture is a Black Breasted Old English Game: Note no white lobes.

This next bird is Owlsnest Leipers line American Game:

I am thinking probably some sort of American Game bird that someone did not want because of his white earlobes. Anyway that is my guess but I could be very wrong.

Tried to get a pic of the dun bantam cockerel in the show cage, this is the best I could get this morning
