Here is a splash 50% Sumatra pullet. Typewise about the only thing wrong with her is her beak is plenty long and pink foot pads. Here is a good representation of what could happen if I wanted to sell her as a pure Sumatra, I could do so to an unsuspecting person as she looks very close to pure except to an experienced person. But don't worry, she is not for sale, besides, I need her for my own breeding pen. She will be a year old in mid May. I expect her to go broody in about a week.


Here is a 2 year old Aunt to the splash pullet.A bit more of the type I am looking for, for my non Sumatra breeding efforts. Relaxed stance...

does anyone know a good proper conformation for a Sumatra hen? I plan on showing her this year but she was afterall a rescue but came from "good lines" apparently.

I would recommend getting the American Standard of Perfection (sop) book from the American Poultry Association (apa) web site. It has how they should look along with a wealth of other knowledge in the front of it.

If you post a picture of her, we might be able to help. When is the show you are thinking of taking her to? Good luck with her.

Can anyone tell me if this is a black sumatra? She's 4.5 weeks old and came in the rare breed mix from MPC. She's smaller than the rest of my chicks...

Hard to tell by your pic on my cell, but shanks s/b black with yellow soles on feet. Right(?)
