looks good, a good start for sure

he looks really good

his tail looks like it is still developing and that is ok because he is still very young. his head looks great for his age though.

Thank you. I love the personality on these birds. He is very alert and fearless, but very non-aggressive to people. I have two pullets that I got at the same time. I need to cull one of them because she is just not thrifty. She has a really poor tail and is very rough feathered. I am going to try to hatch some more this spring.

Tell me, would their be any issue putting other regular laying hens in the pen with the Sumatras for the spring? Right now they are all running in a mixed flock, but I need to separate him from the other cockerels.

I would not put other breeds in with the sumatras unless you want to have mix breeds. but if you are not breeding them then it is fine.

It would just be the hens that are my layers for egg sales. I currently have them in with a EE rooster that I hate. I would make sure that the hens I put in there laid different coloured eggs. I just didn't want an issue with overbreeding if I only have a couple of pullets in with the Sumatra cockerel.

yes you should be fine, they can handle 10 or more with ease. They only have to hit each hen every 2-3 weeks anyway
