Sumatras

Sumatras are one of my favorite breeds to judge. I love the feel of them. The feather quality on a good Sumatra is amazing-feels almost like silk.

I would LOVE to get my hands on some good quality Sumatra large fowl.

Does anyone know of any in Canada? Or would be willing to ship eggs to Canada?

The ones I really want are from a breeder named Richard Schock. Here is a web link to some of his birds:

Dang...I need a towel I'm drooling so much....

I love Raven, our little Sumatra. She must be a bantam, and could be mixed. I got her full grown along with a mix of birds and I don't know much about her. I think bantam Sumatras would be a good choice for anybody who needed to keep their chickens low-profile; they could pass as crows from a distance. When I pull up to our house and see crows in the street, I always get a quick fright, "omigosh! Did Raven get out?" She's a great flyer.

I don`t think Richard is doing much these days is he?? My birds came from Doug Akers in Indiana, he has some really awesome birds....PM me Urban Coyote and I will send you his email address,,,Jane/Cedaridge Farm

I just got a place to put my sumatras in for the winter. I am so happy. And it's inside with absolutely no mud so their tails will be fine.

Here are some pics of my 2 boys taken in November. Their tails have grown out a little more since then. At the time I took the pics I had suddenly noticed their tails and combs and realized my "pullets" were probably boys. They started crowing shortly thereafter. I will be looking to rehome them in a couple of months, maybe sooner. So if anyone wants some free sumatra roos, you can have them. I really want to concentrate on having a few breeds instead of the conglomeration I have now. I took them from someone who bought them at Easter as chicks, but then realized that they would grow up.

Finally!! Some pics of my group, 1 very dark dun roo, he looks black, until you spread his wing and you can see the dun color, 1 dun pullet (laying) 2 black pullets (just starting to lay) and 1 splash pullet, that should be interesting with the dun roo...

The roo is short on tail, the lady I got him from had him free range and he did not give up easily and his tail became a nice grab hold

, after a month of try and try again he got caught, now that he is here, I think he's happy
