Summer Garden being planted this weekend!!!!

I planted mine last Sunday too. I had done what I call an experiment a couple of months ago.I took some potatoes that had seeded from the cabinet, cut them up in chunks, and put them in some hay in the backyard just to see what would happen and forgot about them because the temps had dropped below freezing and we had 2 snow events. Well I went to plant my garden and noticed something green coming out of the hay.I thought it was weeds but nope got 8 potato plants growing. It was the potatoes from the grocery store so I still don't know if I will get anything off of them but I am excited. Vegetables here we come!!!

I'll be planting this weekend too! I start 90% of my garden by seed. This is SO fun!

To early in Michigan to plant much yet and to wet to get the tractor in without getting it stuck. I can work on my pereninals though. I have a new bed I am putting in so time to split the ones up that are over growing.

My dad JUST called and asked me to come stay the weekend with him and help him plant his garden. He needs the help very badly. My garden will have to wait till next week. I'm happy to help him. This may be the last garden I'll be able to ever help him with. His health is failing.

done with mine. i'll plant one more row of peppers and tomatoes in about a month to extend the season. planted jalapano, cayene, chile, bells, habenaro, thai hots, hot bannana, spinach, broccolli, romane lettuce, better boys and cherry tomatoes, straight and crookneck squash, cantelope and watermellons, two new blueberry bushes, and the asparagus is up and running. i'll finish running the soaker hoses tonight and then the weekend will be spent on finishing the run for the coop. looks like good weather for my weekend off for a change.

That's one of the nice things about our climate here in Eastern NC - (we are about an hour and 1/2 from the coast) is we can garden year round pretty much. We still have spinach and some greens from last fall that hasn't gone to seed yet so we are still eating those.

That's why we have 2 seperate gardens the spring garden will get cover cropped all summer in either buckwheat or oats this year. The summer usually just gets winter rye. All the green grass is very welcomed by the birds during the winter. When they see you coming with a 5 gallon bucket it's a "feeding frenzy"
