Hi there friends,

My White Leghorns started laying their first eggs last week. I have been getting an egg from each every day until today when the temperatures dropped almost 25 degrees. One left us an egg, the other didn't. Should I be worried that she hasn't laid her daily egg? I put the heat lamp on them and closed up the coop as much as I can. They also have straw and shavings to cuddle up in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie

They don't always lay daily - especially when they are just beginning. The heat lamp is definite overkill. Egg production is far more affected by day length than it is by temperatures. I think that you have nothing to worry about as long as she is acting normal.

Thanks! It's a lower watt bulb, more for light than anything else the weather is so damp and the rain is coming and going. She is her normal sassy self. I am just really new to this and was worried about her getting egg bound. I'm on my way to turn it back off. I appreciate the feedback.
