I got 10- 1 day old chicks during Easter weekend and needed to build a suitable coop/run. I ended up with 8 hens (2 of the chicks turned out to be roosters and were given away); 3 white leghorns & 5 barred rocks.
The coop is 4' x 8' and the run is 10' x 10' (6 feet tall). In some of the pics the coop is leaning, had to dig a little deeper to fix that, but it's all square now. Very simple design, relatively easy to build...I was able to do this entirely by myself with just a few standard tools. It ended up costing a little more than planned and took MANY trips to get the materials, let's just say the people at Home Depot know me by name.
So far I have 2 white leghorns laying pretty consistantly, hopefully the rest will start soon.
The start:
Front & Back walls up:
Plywood siding on:
Side view...the nesting boxes go here:
Finished!
Side with nesting boxes:
This was one of my "other summer projects", not a coop but pretty useful! :
