My 5 hens who are bare winged and bare backed were recently sunburned I have kept them in the covered run and am putting aloe vera jell on them I have saddles with wing protectors on ordered but untill then what can I do they are red and it breaks my heart. My roo is now in his own cage till all is well and may only see them once in a while in the future. I think they are happier without a man.LOL

Get some Coppertone SPF 15 spray-on waterproof sunscreen, and spray it on their bald spots each day until you can cover them up or their feathers grow back. I had this problem with one of my hens who had bald shoulders and back. She was getting beet red, and it hurt to look at her. She got to where she actually seemed to enjoy the coolness of being sprayed each morning.

Thank You so much. I have six new ladies to introduce to them but am choosing to wait till they have healed as I know there will be a pecking order issue and right now I know they could not handle it.
