Sunburned chicken breast area treatment?

What can I put on her skin to soothe it and perhaps prevent further sunburning. She and her sister hen lost their chest and tummy feathers a few months ago back when they didn’t want to sleep on the roost. They are great with roosting now but the sunburn skin looks sad. What can I put on it?

You might consider purchasing baby sunscreen that is non-toxic. Coconut oil might work, but maybe not as effective as baby sunscreen.

As far as I know, chickens don't get sunburn. (I learned this from another member who had Naked Neck (chickens) who were in a lot of sun but never got sunburned.) The red skin is something else which normally happens in bald spots, with or without sun exposure. There's nothing that is needed to be done, though I'd make sure that her bedding is clean and that she's not rubbing her belly too much.

On a side note, the skin looks a little loose (stretched, hanging). I'd have a higher concern over that than anything. On all my hens, including the ones who have bald bellies, their skin is tight against their body and isn't hanging down like that.

its her crop and its first thing in the morning i took the picture so its empty.... in evening it gets full and doesnt look like that... is that ok? Maybe shes overeating? Ive seen her eating the duck's food also

Thanks! about half of the 3000 sq ft duck and chicken yard is shadey. they hang in shade when its hot but also spend some time in the sun when its not too hot

Aloe Vera gel or spray will soothe and help heal her sun-burned skin same as it does with people.
