my nine week old chickens are growing nicely... they voraciously descend upon the sunflower seed I give them, as so they haven't eaten in weeks, and I know they are eating...

can I give them too much?

I think treats should be about 10% of the diet so they don't lose their appetite for their nutritionally balanced feed. They should also have some sort of grit in their diet to help the seeds break down in the crop. The grit can be from sandy soil with little rocks the get on a regular basis or from store bought chicken grit. The ones in pet stores for adult pet birds usually has too much calcium.
