Sunning? 3 wk old chicks fanning wings out and lounging to the side

I found myself looking and seeing if they were breathing. Yep, they were.

My layers last year as chicks would lounge around and apear as tho they laid on there backs! Honestly wish I had taken photos because no one would believe me.
Happy is a dust bath in the sun laying sprawled out.
I just let my 3 bantams out in a small "baby pen" and first thing they did was lay down and sprawl out!
So fun to watch and they feel more comfortable when your hanging out with them, you will watch for preditors.

My silkies sun themselves too, but none so much as my little 3 wk old blue one, Lucy. Lucy walks around the yard which is mostly shade but when she finds herself in a patch of sun she immediately lays on her side and basks in the warmth. Others will step on her and she jumps up, finds another spot and lays back down. Sometimes she spreads her wings and sometimes not but I find it so funny to watch her.

It's almost like an involuntary reaction. Walking, pecking, eating, walking, walking, OopS! sunshine, LAY DOWN!

I just brought my four week old chicks outside and it scared me. I'm glad their ok.
