Some of my hens have very bare backs, thanks to over zealous roosters. I'm concerned that with summer approaching, they will get sunburn. It's exposed skin, it'll sunburn won't it? What is something safe that I can use? Does anyone else do this?

I had a dog that got a sunburn on its back and between the scraching at it and the fur not growing back it took two years to heal, I would never hesitate to put sunscreen on anouther animal if I considered it at all, use the child safe kind and a little at first to make sure it does not hurt them.

we use chicken saddles on bare backs when we get them ...never used a sunblock so i wont comment on that..

I have the same issues with a few of my hens and still trying to figure out who is pecking who! I have separated my rooster for 2 weeks so far and their backs are getting worse. I wonder if there is some hen pecking going on? I tried expensive saddles and it helped just a little but it caused more issues by waring their feathers off on their wings. Not to mention how dirty they get after a few days! I am treating them with a blend of coconut & essential oils, along with 50 sunscreen. we're considering putting a camera inside coup to determine who the "mean girl" is!
