I have never seen a chick this tiny! I got an assortment of bantams today at Cackle Hatchery. Many are little silkies and some are OEGB, and a few are bantam cochins. This little guy was the only entirely black one of the bunch and is clean legged. I am thinking he/she may be a black Japanese. At any rate he is tiny - even for a bantam. It is about the size of a quarter maybe. It holds it's own at the feeder and even with it filled can slip right under the little bar that is supposed to keep them from perching and pooping into the feed. Crazy tiny baby! This one has gotten the nickname Mikro - I am assuming with my luck it is a little cockeral even though it is way too soon to even guess. Here are some pics:

I hatched one like that and was told it was probably a Japanese. She is still extremely small! Way smaller than the Silkies.

yes, my 13 year old who is always SUPER careful with the chicks is afraid to touch him, much less hold the little thing, and my 11 year old is not getting the opportunity, lol! I have not seen many quail chicks in person, and most were at least a few weeks old, but I would say this baby is maybe just a bit bigger than the ones I say at a few days old - tiny even for a bantam - and I thought silkies were itty bitty compared to my LF chicks!

Wow, that's small!

And I thought silkies were little! Too bad you don't what it is yet.
I like the name Mikro... he is a cute little thing!

You should post a picture with him standing next to a quarter... would be a cool comparison.

thanks for sharing!
