Super upset... Lost nearly half of my chicks.

.... Just yesterday I wanted to moved them to my cage in my shed.... At 3 weeks old now..

Cam home late and decided to do it tomorrow (today). Woke up to... My brooder lid removed which had heavy rubber mats on it. Lid was off... About 8 or so cuddling I'm a group on the ground near my bike... The rest still inside the plastic tote.

60 chicks... Down to 34!!

Started to suspect humans did this.. But then who?

After removing them to the cages... I noticed one bleeding from the shoulders upper wing area.

Then walking around the garden... Saw a pair of wings.... And part intrails.....

My guess it's a fox.. Can't be a cat.. Won't be able to lift /bite off the rubber mats.

Really upset....

Sorry this happen to you! We learn from our mistakes. If they were not in a protected area----a dog or fox could have knocked the lid off, then other animals like cats could have gotten some too. Just set-up a very secure area for the rest. Good luck.

Hind sight always great! Guess it gotta happen to one personally to really learn..... Such in life

preferred I ate them.. Rather than the fox!!
