Supplier sent chick grit instead of adult.

Will adults be okay with chick grit, and just grind through it faster, or should I get another bag? There's plenty of grit in the garden, from me digging to plant the trees, so I could shovel some up? It ranges in size from the same as the chick grit to pebbles. They'll not be ranging at first, to get them accustomed to their new ex-batt life without totally freaking them out with sky and trees and the rabbits.

They'll be on crumble, because that's what they're used to, and I plan to introduce new foods gradually.

I only give my chicks and chickens garden dirt and sand. (I do live in the desert though...)
I would add some of your dirt, making sure it's not from an area you have ever used insect or weed killer on of course. Just to make sure they are getting big enough pieces. Other people might have more advice for you.

Look for pebbles around this size.

.This is adult size Poultry Grit. If you can't find a good amount of hard pebbles this size on your property, I would buy a bag of Poultry Grit. It lasts a long time. My hens consume less than a pound of Granite Grit each per year, but they do free range up to an hour a day on gravelly soil. GC

The chick grit should be fine for now. If they are only eating crumble they don' need grit at all, only for treats. I personally would not buy adult grit especially if you plan to give them some free range time soon when they get used to their surroundings.

Thanks folks. I'll do some shovelling then.

I don't have a car, so getting to the feed store is a pain in the butt (two buses and a 30 minute walk), and I didn't want to order one bag of grit if it wasn't necessary right away.
