Support groups for lost chickens

this is for people who has lost one or many birds and need some support.

ill start: last spring i got 31 chicks from www.hoovershatchery.com and there was 2 california white pullets 25 black australorps and the rest gold stars.
when they were 3 weeks old they got coccidiosis and lost all but 5, 1 gold star and 3 black astralorps
scince then 2 roosters died so now i have only 2 of that batch left poppy my gold star hen and jet my ba rooster!

now tell other people your story and all the rest of us will support you

I'm sorry you lost your birds. The fact is that most of us will lose many birds over the years, even with the best of care. After awhile, you learn to get over it faster and be a bit more philosophical about things like that. Folks who keep chickens more like livestock and less like pets rarely arent phased much by losing a bird here and there. I've lost some wonderful feathered friends over the past two years and it hurts, but I know they were very well cared-for while they were here and I have always done my best for them, so I try not to dwell on it too much.

I'm with you Cyn. As much as I loved Gimpy Girl, there comes a time to move on. I've even been able to come to the point where I no longer look at her sister, FussyButt, and expect her personality to be that of Gimpy Girl. It's not going to happen.

They're all individuals, every bit as much as people are. All I can do is cherish the memory of those feathered friends I've lost and hope that some day the Great Spirit sees fit to send me another best feathered friend.

Maybe this springs chicks will contain just such a friend!

I hope I haven't been misunderstood here....I think everyone around BYC has always been generally very supportive of anyone who has reported the loss of a special bird. I guess that's why I don't see the need for a special thread devoted solely to that.... All one has to do is say they lost someone special and there is almost always at least 20 people ready to lend their words of condolences and support.

Ohhh, Roocrazy, I can see why you need support! That's really tough to have lost 29 out of 31 chicks, I hope this wasn't your first batch of chicks? That's barely a 6.5% survival rate! I wish you much better success with your next batch.

We've had a lot of chickens come & go here, some we miss much more than others. I think the most difficult losses to bear are the ones where I know it's because of some carelessness or stupidity on my part.

I appreciate your offer of support, we really are here to hold you up too.

I have to admit when I walk outside with certain treats I still look for Nugget and Tux, it hurts too, they were my babies.

I was under the impression that bumping our own threads is at minimum poor taste and maybe even agains the BYC rules. Roo i would begin by practicing a bit more paitence when beginning a thread.
