Advice and SupportYesterday my Barred Rock hen, Lucinda, was attacked by my dog. He got her by the tail feathers and we had to pry his jaws open to get her free. She had a circular open wound with fat and muscle exposed. I took her to the vet as soon as I could. She was attacked last year as well, underwent surgery, and healed perfectly fine after a few weeks so I was hopeful she would recover. The vet put her on pain meds while awaiting surgery... I'm heartbroken to say that my beloved Lucinda could not tolerate the anesthesia and passed shortly after being sedated... After reading this thread I fear I did the wrong thing by taking her to the vet. Maybe if I just kept it clean and let her heal she would have been ok.. I loved her dearly and feel terrible I took her to the vet.. I just wanted to help her and I fear I cut her life short... Saddened by her loss, she was such a sweet girl
. She could have had internal injuries and passed away no matter what you did.
