I have a 5 week old severely hooked beak baby. I have trimmed weekly and filed it. I have pavers and rocks out for her to file on her own too. I have tried hand feeding and syringe feeding. But the deformity is just too great and she is starving. Her eyes are closing and her wings are drooping. She is very weak. It's time to help her with mercy. After all my extra care I'm feeling really sad about the next step even though I know it's the best thing.
I can't watch her starve to death anymore, so today I'll take the next step and help little Gonzo the only way possible.
Just needed to get it out there and hoped you fine chicken lovers would have some encouragement for me. Thanks for listening!

I'm so sorry for you and I wish I could help. My experience with chicken is next to nothing and I am learning form the trial and troubles of the good people like you. I have six hens that are turning me into a fine chicken lover and they have brought a happiness and joy into my life at a time when I need it. My prays and understanding for you at this difficult time.

I'm so sorry. I have never dealt with hooked beak, but I have had to make choices about how to handle other deformities or illnesses. Sometimes, I have decided to end the suffering and other times I have let nature take its course. It is so hard to have that kind of responsibility.

I hope that you will find peace with the situation and know that you did everything you could. Your care and love for your little chick is obvious.

A hard decision. But what's best for the chick should be uppermost.

There's a saying " It's better to euthanize a day too early than an hour too late" Though the "best" time can be different for different people.
