Is there a resource where I can learn more about colour genetics, it's something which really interests me!

One thing I have noticed is the substantial variation in chocolate coloured orpingtons being use for breeding in the UK, they range from very dark brown, to a milk chocolate colour to a reddy chocolate colour, I wonder if it is possible some are not self chocolate, but the black/dun/khaki variation you mention, or even something else?

I've googled khaki, but can only find examples of khaki ducks, is that the same colour as in chickens?

I will deffo take some more pics & update when we get some feathers come in on the chicks

The only two other breeds I am aware the breeder keeps are light sussex & I think he has some buff orpingtons at POL.

I have contacted the seller, but have had no replies so far.

Very cute chicks but not chocolate orps as you probably already know! they look to me like light sussex and if the seller has these in their stock then this is what these are most likely to be, it would be nice to think the seller just mixed up the eggs by accident and will give you a refund but the fact they have not yet responded to your email is starting to look suspicious, I take it you spent alot of money on these eggs as they are going for silly prices at the moment, keep us informed.

I think the other people are right- those might be the light sussex chicks-

Not my birds or I'd be rolling in cash right now!

And yes- Orps do have white legs (unless they are BBS) but so do Sussex!
Haha joebryant!

Yeah... Orps have white legs.

Doesn't it depend on the variety?

Skin colour (yellow, white, black) is breed related, although there is some variation in leg colour depending on variety. You cannot have yellow or willow legs without having yellow skin.
