Hi all,
I'm new to the forums and while we've had chickens before, this is our first hatch! I just wondered whether you lovely people could help with sexing these three little ones. They're now 12 days old and beginning to feather. Although the hatching eggs were sold as Salmon Faverolles and I saw the parent birds, these appear not to have the extra toe so not sure why! Thanks so much in advance...I've just found this forum and it's full of so much brilliant information! :)

I'm guessing #1 is a cockerel and the other 2 are pullets. SF cockerels feather in black like that. With the extra toes, it really depends on how the genes express. They can get more or less than they're supposed to have, and the temperature at which they are incubated can also effect that expression.

Good luck with them :)

I agree , but is it possible to take photo of legs/ toes?

I agree that the first looks like a cockerel. My SF had hardly any black on her wings at that size and still has next to none. Her wings were always "salmon" colored.

Thanks so much guys...will try and get some leg/toe pics. Do the legs present differently in the cockerels and pullets?
