My husband brought home some chicks round the end of March beginning of April. We are trying to figure out which is the best all round chicken for eggs and meat.
He bought road island reds, Plymouth barred rocks and golden sex links. Our only problem is the barred rocks are not looking like barred rocks as they get older. When they were smaller they had a little bit of white on them but were mostly black.
They have no speckels on them at all right now. They are solid black. Does it take a long time for them to get their speckels or did we get a different kind of chicken? They remind us of the black egg layers we used to have that layed brown eggs.
