Supposed to be pure breed Ameraucana.

I also have a Splash Maran. Is it a rooster? I think it is, unfortunately. The black chicken and this one are together and I think I heard a feeble attempt at a crow this morning. Not sure who it was. I'm affraid they are both roosters.

This is supposed to be a pure breed Ameraucana, not an Easter Egger. I made sure they knew the difference. He/She is 5 weeks but bigger than my 6 week Splash Copper Maran. He/SHe has been solid black (feet, feathers, comb, beak, eyes) until a few days ago. Now there are a few brown feathers coming up on the chest and shoulders. So, what do you think? Hen? Rooster? Type of chicken?

My closest guess is Brown Red Ameraucana Rooster but I don't think the feet or comb are supposed to be black or will that change?
The other chick is same age same kind but she is growing too slow.

That is not a purebreed Ameraucana, they have muffs and beards. And I'm going to assume that this chick was sold to you as a Black Ameraucana. TRUE Black Ameraucanas have no golden feathering. Also this bird has a single comb --- True Ameraucanas have a pea comb. I'm thinking this chick might be a Black Sex-Link or Black Copper Marans. And I'm guessing hen, because my biggest guess for breed would be Black Sex-Link and a rooster of that breed would have barred feathers.

This is a picture of some Ameraucana chicks from last year.
The comb looks about the same.
I have read in the past that black legs are acceptable on black Ameraucanas.
Some ended up with beards and muffs and other combinations and some just have

the pea comb.
I have only had this breed for a year, and know nearly nothing about chickens.

That's a box full of Easter Eggers, not true Ameraucanas :).

That chick doesn't have a single comb. Looks like it might be a modified pea comb, but it's most definitely not a single comb. It's not a Black Sex Link.

This chick looks a lot like a purebred Ameraucana, but the comb is off. A modified pea comb would put it straight into the Easter Egger camp. I see some fluffy cheeks coming in, too. Here's a purebred brown-red Ameraucana courtesy of Ameraucana Breeder's Association: http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook_files/lfbrownredf.JPG

I see a little bit of fluffy cheeks too. But that comb is strange.

Since the seller was very sure that it was a purebred Ameraucana, what color did he say it was? A good breeder should be able to tell you that.

And, yes, if that is some sort of pea comb, it's probably a cockerel, especially with that color leakage.
