Suprelorin implant (Virbac) stops hens with egg peritonitis laying anymore

Update: Hen is doing great after her implant! Doc says she may start laying again once we get her over this ectopic hump. Fluid is gone off her belly. Vet is quite pleased. We will re-evaluate in early September whether she needs another implant. I am just thrilled!

Hi lareScifi,
When did you have the implant done for your hen? What are the side effects you have observed?
Thanks,
Sue

Sue, shortly after getting her implant, Henny's breathing got back to normal, no more wheezing nor gurgling sounds. Her feisty personality returned. Her appetite improved. Her depression lifted. She started to molt. She became more affectionate.

No, I would say she started molting about 2 weeks after receiving the implant injection. It's a slow molt, I would say. The doctor said her feathers may grow back in a different color.

Thanks. The reason I asked is that we had our Mocha implanted about two weeks ago. She has no sign of molting yet. She has been subdued and not eating much since the implant. We didn't have her drained of the fluid, so her belly is still very big. The vet does not recommend draining her.
