suprise rooster what do i do now

Okay we bought a hen. Ha! Suprise rooster. Well I was prepared to deal with a hen. I have no idea what to do with a rooster. And he's an escape artist he keeps getting in with the girls. Our highest hen (ameracauna 2.5 months old) and him like each other quite a bit. Nothing bad happened but I immediately removed him again. Now he is circling their enclosure and henny penny(ameracauna) is following him and clucking. When he gets to far away she cries. So I don't think. But the other chicks are between 2 months and 3 weeks old. The smallest are my bantys is it safe for him to be around these girls? I wanted an older hen to kind of show the little one how to be moms. But now I have no idea what to do whether to freezer camp him or just leave him be. Ps. We aren't stupid we just didn't get to inspect him at the auction. They clipped his tail and ground his spur. He was sold as "a good mother hen".

Hi! Sorry that you picked up a rooster instead of a hen. You could maybe try to sell him, butcher him, or if you wanted to keep him, you could build him a seperate rooster coop and only let him in with with the hens when you wanted to raise chicks. We have a rooster and he is with the hens 24/7. Well now, the hens look realy bad 'cause he tore out thier feathers when he bred them. So our plan is to build our rooster a seperate coop and only let him in with the hens when we want chicks.
Don't worry about your hens needing another hen to show them how to be moms. We have a hen that went broody, and so we gave her furtile eggs from our other hens to sit on and now we have chicks! Our hen had never been a mom before and she didn't have anyone to show her how to be a mom, and she is a great mom! She showed our chicks how to eat, drink and scratch around.Your hens will learn to be good moms all by themselves! Find out more information on this subject 'cause there is a lot to know! I would recomend you get a book called: Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow. I hope this helps and sorry for all the bad spelling.

Thanks sweetie. And your spelling is fine. Even adults can't spell. I hope you enjoy homeschooling as much as mine do. they're so much happier than when they were in public. My oldest says hi and invites you to our chick day feld trip. Lol. Tell your parents their doing great if you can answer a question on here.

A rooster's job is to breed. There is no stopping it unless you get rid of him or pen him separately.

The poor hens get ripped apart by over zealous roos and to me, it is not worth watching your hens get abused to the point of feather loss and/or bleeding. Maybe you can trade him for a hen? Try Craigslist (your local one).
