Surely, I'm not the only one....?

don't get me started on that...when we lived in the city...kids REGISTERED for b'day gifts!

the toy store, we b the toys (you figure out the real name) has it all set up for them.

i refused to let my daughter go to one after the mom informed me that there was something in everyone's price range. WHAT????

remember when it was, "say thank you, and YOU GET WHAT YOU GET!" my kids say thanks to anyone who comes whether a gift is presented or not. we want them to enjoy their friends, not just the gift their friend gave...

Yeah, I think those were the same days as if you did something stupid and hurt yourself at your friend's house you got a spanking and a lecture, not "poor baby" and let's sue the parents.+

or even more so, i used to remember, not only were the neighbors going to give you what for, then they sent you down to YOUR house to get more what for! suing was usually the other way around, "i hope they don't sue us because johnny kicked their car..."

funny, i don't remember ever having to get what for. maybe just knowing we should behave was enough, because my parents always followed through with what they said. i hope i am doing that myself and teaching my children well.

honor and respect should not be demanded, it should be given at all times and expected.

including all the 'buy something at my party' things, but not getting invited any other time...

again, I LOVE my friends and family, but it is a two way street, not a fair weather event.

I have a nephew who every time his kids birthdays roll around its an event 40 people.
And and full buffet. Then all the adults are doing shots and getting pie-eyed.

what ever happened to grandma and grandpa are coming and we are having cake and ice cream.

My (younger) sister is the social one in the family. We she got engaged my Dad bought her a book 500 Ways to Elope (or something like that). She didn't take the hint

and her wedding was around 200 or so.

Of course my wedding only consisted of about 30 people, partly because like most everyone else on this thread I am semi-anti-social and not a big party person, but also because I was military and the closest family was 5 hrs away (my husbands side, who still ended up being the least represented with some people RSVPing, but then cancelling the day of
