Surprise Chicks

I went out to our garden and found that one of our hens who is always escaping from our fenced chicken yard was in the garden caring for 9 new chicks. We want to let her raise them over there because we put them all in a little brooder tractor we have and she is so upset. If we let her raise them in the garden and just prop open the tractor door for some optional shelter, what do I do about food? Should I bring her layer feed and buy them chick feed? I’m worried about them eating the layer food we get because it is course ground grains. I don’t want them to get impacted.
