Surprise Color in Egg!

Gathered eggs yesterday and found one of particular interest! It is definitely in the "plum" color range although I the camera didn't catch the exact shade. I am "guessing" that it is from one of the BCM girls....all my pullets have just started laying so no one is regular now, but am wondering if anyone else has run into this color? I think I will blow it out to save it 'cause it's pretty cool!!

Agree, that's a brown egg.

I have a new layer, and she's supposed to be laying brown eggs, but they come out a beautiful plum color like yours. It's because of a bunch of teeny tiny calcium spots on the surface of the egg. It makes it look purple! I bet if you scraped it a bit, you could see the brown underneath. I'm sort of hoping she keeps laying these fluke eggs, since they're so pretty!
