Surprise cross!

So awhile back I decided to start collecting my one black silkie’s eggs and incubating them. I figured I’d get full silkies (I got one) and black cochin crosses (which I got plenty of) but to my surprise I got this! I have a full size barred rock roo for my big girls but just never thought she’d let him get close, welp I guess I was wrong! I’m so in love with this little one. Also she has been moved to the young chicks coop because I feel like that was a bit much to have him go after her. She is much happier and rules the roost!

I have another that I’ve noticed has some barring but far more feathed, lots on the feet and looks to have a small crest coming in. So that will be interesting to watch develop!

That is exciting! I hope you post new pics from time to time. We have silkies and barred rocks too and I thought about crossing... Our barred chick is now 6 weeks and soooper calm and sweet. Imagining the cross just melts my heart!

I will definitely update with pictures soon, and I plan on continuation of the cross (but with my BR bantams), it will be a fun project.

Updated pictures on the chicks, I ended up having two of this cross. I think they are adorable! Honestly pictures don’t even do them justice.

So the first chick became my daughters pet “Chicka” and I sold all her chicks except Mickey because he came out silkie feathered. If you remember Chicka is silkie x BR, well the roo is silkie x cochin and so I was super excited for the silkie feathers on Mickey! He is so sweet and beautiful, he crest has gotten larger since this picture. I’ll have to update that soon. But I absolutely love this cross. He perfect!
