Surprise Kindling, Cold Kits

Your problem may be the way bunnies feed. Like kittens, they sort of curl their tongues around the nipple, and of course a sponge wouldn't give them the structure to wrap around. But every day he lives is a little victory for you at this point.:fl

I'm not sure how much stimulation a bunny needs to get them to pee. I've heard that they do it on their own, with the movement of the others in the nest being enough to make them all go at once. Certainly, anyone who has had litters knows that handling the kits before they get their eyes open will get you pee'd on, sooner or later (I had a rabbit-raising friend who told me this was one of her ways of figuring out if a kit was a boy or a girl - with a girl, the pee just sort of dribbles down the tail, if it squirts you right in the eye, it's a boy!)

Use a cotton ball dipped in warm water, gently dab the genital area ... make sure you point away from yourself & have paper towels lining table or do this over something. It'll pee, they need to be stimulated.

How’s baby bun doing!? I’ve really been thinking about him!

Losing weight.

I think he expends too much keeping warm. I cannot refill the hot bottle every hour. Today I sacrificed my large heated blanket to wrap his box in until an electric pad arrives.

Despite using makeup sponges instead of the drowning syringe, he hardly eats. He doesn't understand how to suckle well.
Miracle nipples and syringes arrived today. Hoping the combo of constant heat and a more efficient feeding method will turn the tables.
Today is his 4th day.

Well Your doing the best you can! The only thing that I can think of is asking around for any does near you that you could foster him to. Other moms are usually pretty ok having extra babies.

Bunny passed.
Too little food, too little warmth. If I had the necessary items right away I probably could have made the difference, but several days of less than ideal conditions simply couldn't sustain him.

I recommend rabbit breeders keep a Miracle Nipple and syringe set plus a small heating pad on hand. The Miracle Nipple syringe was the only device actually successful in getting food into him.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Thank you for the advice as I’ve just gotten into breeding rabbits and will look into buying the nipples and heating pad.
