Surprise, surprise! Need confirmation on a genetics question.

I have paired up a White male and a Bronze BS hen, for this season. I do not know the parentage on the White male, but since he is white I assume he cannot carry any Pied genes. He could, however be carrying 1 or 2 copies of WE, without any way to know other than breeding, correct? I was not aware of the hen carrying any splits, but on a BS I know they can be hard to spot. So far I have hatched 5 chicks from them and 4 are exactly what I expected, IB with some white wing feathers and a small white spot here or there. Then number 5 popped out, and is very definitely a Pied, so I am assuming this is 100% confirmation that mom is split to Pied, right?

Well I am not quite sure because I thought breeding a white to a split to pied gets you all pied peachicks?

Breeding White to "DARK" Pied would get you all Pied, because dark pied carries 2 copies of pied, but no copy of white. A split pied carries 1 copy of pied and no white, so I am assuming she is split to pied as we are getting pied and what appear to be IB spit White chicks.

Wow I need to write that down. I thought split to pied and dark pied was the same thing.

Your assumptions are correct! Looks like mamma is carrying pied. Just goes to show that real life doesn't always add up in the math.

If i remember right your young bronze bs male has white feather, right? If you could get bronze bs pied chicks from them it will be great!

Anther Color question. My male is IB split to white (appears IB), My hen is IB split to pied (appears IB). For two successive years, they had 6 chicks that were 3 pied (yellow w/tan at hatching) and 3 IB ( dark brown at hatching). Now, my hen is sitting on 6 eggs again, only 1 has hatched (its been 19 hours- I'm very sad) but it looks like neither of the colors from previous nests. I only have the 1 hen and 1 male- so it has to be the same parents
The first picture here shows the 6 chicks from a prior year- same parents- 3 yellow (pied) and 3 dark brown (IB)----------- The second picture is this years chick which is a pale buff color. What do you think it will be? Any guesses?

It could be purple if the male was split to purple.

I would guess the chick may be a purple hen as q8peafowl suggests from a split purple dad. Although it is possible that the chick is just lighter colored.
