What did you do in the garden today?

How on earth can 60K be justified just for permission to build. That sounds like a perfect case of nonsense to me.
The fee schedule for our county is absolute garbage. Our raw land is under county regulation, far outside of any city limits. We also have protected species of oak tree. And our property sits inside a "sensitive resource area". Which limits what we can build and makes it expensive for no good reason.

Has anyone else noticed that beets take way longer from planting to harvest than the seed packets indicate?………..or is it just me? Could me just me…..probably is just me.
More nitrogen. A lot more.

I have had this problem. For years I didn't know why. More nitrogen, even soil moisture is what fixed my problem. I had this same problem with lettuce.

Yesterday my DH, DS, and I went to Home Desperate. I was thinking I'd get through the garden section without buying any plants. 🤣 That was a silly thought.

DH found pepper plants that he likes, that I'm not growing.... DS found one. So there's 4 more peppers I need to plant.🥴🤦🏻‍♀️ at least they're participating!

My long pie pumpkin got it's roots eaten by a gopher. It had just set it's first female fruit. I am so sad. I'm going to start more. I think I will still get a harvest.

I watered yesterday. Today I will fertilize the lawn, water the orchard clover, clean the chicken coop, trim zucchini leaves, mulch the rest of the garden beds, and, AND get at least one more bed outfitted with drip irrigation.

My beets have good looking leaves but when I felt for the root there wasn't much there. Guess I should pour on some of my weed tea fertilizer.

My nitrogen IS low and I do add a balanced fertilizer when planting, I also had to lime to get the Ph up. Always worried(well OK, NOT worry) About top growth at the expense of the root growth. :he
BEETS, THE EASY CROP. :barnie

Well, if they don't make nice roots the beet greens are great. Some consolation in that.
