survival prognosis after fly strike??? UPDATE on Roy!!

Well, he is showing and interest in food. Well scratch anyway. at least he is eating something. I will keep him
in the house tonight, it he is doing good tomorrow do you think it would be okay to let him out with his girls again?
I know that he misses them. I try to keep him company, but I am not match for the hen I a sure.

Hubby will not let Roy stay in the house. I had him in the bathroom but he said that he is too noisy and that he belongs outside.
I argued but I have to respect him this is also his house. So Roy is now outside with his ladies tonight.

he is eating and drinking and crowing a lot. He seemed to be very happy to see his girls and danced for them.

Now I need advice on how to help him outside. His wound is better, I am putting vetericyn spray on him.
Giving him some rooster booster, and putting electrolytes in their water.

I will keep checking on him, so if the files get to him I will notice right away. What else can I do.
I cannot keep him in the house anymore. I do not have a garage and the only shed that I have leaks really bad.
We have had lots of rain, but his pen and coop is dry.

Thanks

Trust me, my family would only let a chicken stay in the house if it were a desperate situation. We use to raise chicks in the house, and they pooped and pooped and pooped and pooped and pooped. Oh, did I mention they pooped? Cleaning up the basement and the office probably took hours for the latter, and days for the basement.

Could you try covering the wound with something?

There are a few advantages to being single. I can bring any animal in my house that needs to come in......

But, since hubby doesn't want him in the house....... run over to Tractor Supply and buy a product called SWAT. You will find it in the horse section. It even comes in bright pink, so you can tell if it is still covering the wound.

SWAT will keep the flies away.

I googled it and this is what I got! I think that'll work. LOL

Lots of products in the horse dept are great for keeping flys at bay. I wouldnt keep him from his ladies unless they keep picking his wound open. you could also use bluecote to help seal it from the flies. Just keep checking on him to make sure no infection or further problems. If he is eating and drinking better with the ladies more power too him! sounds like he will be okay
Good luck to you both!

Thanks you all. He is doing much better with the ladies, it has seemed to perk up his spirits.
Yes he pooped and pooped, and pooped. drove hubby crazy, and it stunk too. Not as cute
as when they were chicks.

Ok, I will get some SWAT, his wound is much better and healing well. they ladies are not picking on him.
I also gave hime some B-12 rooster booster, never heard of this before but the feed store guy
said it was good. I hope I made the right decision because it was expensive.

thanks again. I will keep you all posted on his condition.

Roy is doing much better. He actually went to bed with his girls tonight. He has been sleeping on the floor of the pen
in a kennel because he could not climb the latter to the coop. It was such a nice sight to see him to go bed with his ladies.
Then when up there he was talking to them so sweetly, he really missed his ladies. Thank you all so much for you help.

btw, I have been giving him some rooster booster the B-12 and Vit K formula. How long should I give that to him, a week or so?
Just wondering.

thanks again, the people here are so helpful
