"Yes, sir," Faith replied, bowing gratefully. She turned to look around the dens for packmates that might be willing to join the search. She knew Sylver would want to be part of the party. Who else could she ask? She hadn't spoken to many of her packmates yet...

Trotting to what she felt was the center of the dens, she let out a beckoning howl, contained in it the message that she was gathering a search party.
(The good news is, I can RP Mason, now! The bad news is, if we want Silkies to be a part of this, we're gonna have to wait on her... D: NOOOOO!)

Mason heard the long howl, and he lifted his ears, turning them about, before he finally got the message; "Oh no; oh that's terrible! Poor fellow!" he leaped to his feet, seeming quite nimble for his age, and loped to the front of the den. He saw the young she-dog who had given the howl, and padded up to her. "Oh, dear, this is horrible news! What's the poor fellow's name?" he asked, eyes seeming to glow with warmth and compassion, but also with worry and hope.

(( D: Yeah, I know, but I'm pretty sure she'd want Sylver along in the search party.))

Faith looked to Mason, offering a smile. "His name is Taj," she replied. She wasn't entirely sure if she was glad this dog came or not, looking him over. He was old, she could tell. If they were in a search party, they would need to move fast. Was such an old dog up to the task? But she wasn't even sure that he wanted to join the search party, she corrected in her mind, scolding herself a little for jumping to conclusions. "Will you be joining the search party?" she asked politely.

Mason smiled; "That's a fine name for a fellow." He noticed Faith's expression as she looked him over, and he gave a hearty chuckle, shaking his head. "I know what you're thinking; an old fellow like myself has no business going off on a search party in these treacherous conditions, eh? Well, this is one old fellow you haven't seen the likes of ever before." and he chuckled again.

(Well, that's okay, anyhow, 'cause I have to go for a few hours. I'll be back on at, say, 2:00 or 3:00. K?)

Faith looked at him with surprise, but still managed a smile. There was something about this old guy, such energy! He was nothing like the other old dog Faith knew, who couldn't walk more than a few steps without a limp and a complaint or two about it. She rolled her eyes at the thought, then returned her attention to Mason. "Thank you. Your help is welcome," she replied gratefully.

((ETA: D: Okay.))

Taj hung back and watched as Faith and Sylver worked on digging makeshift steps out of the den. Unsure of how to help, he was bouncing back and forth on his paws, looking around. Then, he looked down, something occurring to him. The water level wasn't rising... So that must have meant... Taj turned and followed the flow of the water to the back of the den, where it was so dark that Taj could only see where he was going when lightning flashed outside and reflected into the den.

"Uh, girls..?" he said, realizing that there was a tunnel dug at the back of the den. It was going deeper underground, but it was possible that they could find a way out, Taj supposed. He continued to walk, mostly feeling his way as he went. "I think there's a--" His words were cut short as the soft ground crumbled beneath his paws, and he slid away down the tunnel and into darkness, the echo of his yell of surprise left in his wake.

It was dark, pitch dark. Taj had only managed to get a grip and stop sliding in what felt like a small, open cavern. His eyes tried desperately to adjust to the darkness, but they could not. Not enough light found its way this far underground...

He felt around the cavern he had landed in, eventually finding a tunnel where water continued to flow out of the cavern. That way was down... And this way was up, he thought, feeling an incline as he walked along through the murky darkness. But it was slippery and would be a long, hard climb to get out.

Taj sat, thinking as hard as he could. Down could keep going forever... But he may not even be able to go back up the tunnel he slid down... Things weren't looking good for him... What would he do if he never found his way out? What would Fay and Sylv do without him..?

Taj got to his feet, taking in a deep breath and gathering up his courage. He felt his way to one of the tunnels. It was the only shot he had. "Wish me luck..." he uttered to himself. And then he closed his eyes and dove into the tunnel going down...

Taj was sliding, falling through darkness, the occasional rock in his path causing him to tumble. He must have been thoroughly coated in mud, and the sinking feeling in his stomach just kept getting deeper and deeper. He hit water, totally unprepared for it, and was unable to take a breath before being drawn under.

The current dragged him along for a short while, his legs flailing desperately the whole way. He calmed, though, when he saw light in the distance, a small feeling of hope rising in him. He didn't know where he was, but he could see again, and if he could see, he could swim.

He didn't have much air left, so he swam furiously, not wasting time. Darkness was starting to pick at the edges of his vision, but he could tell he was nearing the end of the tunnel he was in. The current pushed him right along, out into open water, where he spun uncontrollably for a few minutes.

Taj looked up toward the light. The surface! Air! He paddled desperately upward, but the darkness was closing in on his vision, and he soon ran out of energy. Slowly closing his eyes, he let out what was left of his breath in a small burst of bubbles, and faded into unconsciousness...

((Didn't want to lose these. :) ))

Mason chuckled at the amazement of fair she-dog. He was, of course, used to this reaction, but it never failed to amuse him. "So, where'd the old fellow get lost at?" he chuckled, still smiling. If he could keep the gal's spirits up, they'd have a better chance of finding the poor, lost Taj. He waved his medium lenght tail, and shifted his paws to a more comfortable postition. He might not look it, but he was an old dog, and he was beginning to feel his aches and pains. Of course, he didn't lament about it the way he'd seen others do. He knew that there was no point in doing so, seeing as how they had no way of solving his problems, and certainly didn't need to hear about them.

Faith's expression changed to a neutral one, though there was a small frown on her maw. She glanced to her paws, then looked slightly upward in thought. "About half way between here and the koi pond. There's a den that he just... vanished into," she replied, unsure of how else to describe Taj's disappearance. She looked back to Mason, slowly blinking her pale brown eyes.
