Raven skittered into the den and ran up beside Minty, giving her an indignant expression. "Hey, I was gonna tell her!" she wailed. "Yeah, I'm gonna be the eta!"

Dixie looked, confused, down at her two she-pups... Affla and eta? What in the w...? Her brows rose as she realized the pups meant Alpha and Beta. With a chuckle, she rubbed the two on their heads and said, "Oh, do you mean 'Alpha' and 'Beta'?"

Raven looked at her with a questioning expression, then shook her head. "No, no, it's 'eta' and 'Affla', silly mommy!" she said with a giggle. Dixie sighed and shook her head, suppressing a chuckle. Looking at Mystery, she smiled. "So, what'd you get?" she asked.

Mystery followed his daughters into the den, shaking his head as he heard Raven correct her mother. He smiled warmly to Dixie, placing the paper bag at her feet. "Smells like a burger and fries," he replied, sounding hungry at the idea.

Minty bobbled over, sniffing hungrily at the bag as Mystery carefully tore it open. It didn't seem like much of a meal for a family, though most of the fries were still there and the only thing missing from the burger was the bread. "I'm affla so I get ta eat first, right daddy?" Minty asked, blinking hopefully up at Mystery as she did.

Mystery gave her a patient smile. "Why don't we divide it up first to make sure everyone gets enough, 'affla' Minty?" he suggested, playing along.

Minty looked like she was thinking about the idea. "Otay," she replied. "Daddy, you're so smart."

Laughing, Mystery winked down at her. "I sure am, aren't I?" With that, he set about dividing what was left of the burger.

Dixie smiled at him. "Not much of the burger," she noted as he began to divvy it. "So, what exactly is the special surprise you've been telling the kids about, hmm?" she added, looking at him with a smile.

(( D: ))

"Nah, there really isn't," Mystery said as he began to place pieces of burger in front of the pups. "Guess we'll just have to have a big lunch, huh?" he said to the pups, his tone that of someone talking to a young child.

He looked up as Dixie asked about the surprise, smiling warmly and winking. "Just a little something Morado's dug up in the mines. He says he thought of the kids when he found them," he replied, trying not to give too much away.

Minty was too busy scarfing up her bits of burger and fries to listen to her parents talk. The sooner she finished, the sooner they would get their surprise, after all!

Quote: Raven had bolted her food and was licking her muzzle clean of the ketchup that had been on the burger. The sounds of her eating had made the conversation inaudible for her... Dixie, however, could clearly hear what Mystery had said... And didn't seem to approve.

"Hmm... I don't trust him." she said. "Good thing mommy's coming," she added. "She'll kick some tail if anyone messes with her kids!" she said, a smile growing on her maw as she nibbled Mystery on the ear. "I love you, darling," she said, her eyes practically glowing with affection.

"Ew!" Raven yelped. "Mommy and Daddy are making funny faces at their faces again!" she griped to the others. Jade looked at them and stuck out his tongue in disgust. "Blech!" he yipped.

Taz had an uncomfortable feeling that something was watching them.... And unfriendly pair of eyes, that would make you scream if you saw them in the depths of the night. He crawled out of the pond, and glanced around, but there seemed to be nothing watching them. He shuddered uncomfortably.
Ella clambered out and looked at him. "Hey, what's wrong?" she asked, her brow furrowed in confusion, hanging low over her eyes.

A shadow passed over Taz's face. "I don't know. I feel like something's watching us..." he muttered darkly, the fur on his shoulders rising. His lip curled, revealing his sharp, white fangs.
Ella nodded, suddenly nervous as well.

"Come, we will be safer in the den," he said finally, his voice comforting. He nuzzled her cheek, reminding her that he would protect her and their future pups with his life.
Ella nodded and followed, her tail swaying side to side in nervousness.

Taz gave her a worried glance. "How are you feeling?"

"Oh, Morado's no danger," Mystery replied, though he dropped it quickly. "I love you, too," he replied, nuzzling her cheek.

Hearing Raven's protest at their show of affection, he grinned playfully, looking to his daughter. "And I love my kids, too!" he said, suddenly sweeping the three of them up in his paws and licking them each in turn.

"Argh, daddy!" complained Minty, wriggling free. Laughing, Mystery put the other two back down, shaking his head. "Okay, okay," he said through his laughter. "So how about that surprise?"

Minty quickly forgave him for his dramatic show of love. "Yeah! Let's go, let's go, let's go!!" she yipped, bouncing in circles.

Quote: Dixie smiled and gave each one a lick on the head. As Minty ran around in circles, she crooned, "Ah, ah, ah..." and snatched her up. Rasping her moist pink tongue over the pup's fur, she expected Mystery to keep an eye on the other three. Turning Minty loose, she snatched Raven up. The little black pup wailed and protested, her little legs scrabbling against her mother's paws. Finally, her bath was ended and she scrambled away from her mother. Jade was done next and Dixie stood up.

"Well, do you want to go now, Mystery?" Dixie asked.

Taz nodded, and lay down in his nest. He lay his head on his paws, and glanced up at Ella, smiling.
