Mystery had been up since early morning, having sensed movement in the den and awakened to find Minty trying to sneak out again. "This isn't going to be happening regularly, is it?" he had asked her, to which she promised that it wouldn't, and then made escape attempts twice more within the next hour. Mint had wanted to go catch a patrol group and see if they would let her tag along. She was still undecided as to what she wanted to do when she grew up--there were just so many things she could be!--but though Jiyaken had assured her that there was plenty of time to decide, she just wanted to get out there any try everything out!

Since Mystery was awake fully, trying to keep Minty from wandering off, he figured he would just get up. It was supposed to be his and Dixie's first day back at their pack duties since the pups were born. The pups were weaned, and Mystery and Dixie had already found the perfect pupsitter, in spite of the mixed feelings much of the pack had about the big gray dog named Jiyaken. Though Mystery was ready to work again, he was anxious about how the pups would do on their first day without their parents. This worked through his head as he sat there, just inside the entrance of the den with Mint batting at his tail behind him.

At last, the sun peered over the horizon, and taking Minty in his maw gently, Mystery padded over to the nest where the rest of his family lay. He placed Mint there by her siblings and nuzzled his mate lovingly. "Dixie, Cerise will be giving the day's orders soon," he said to her, trying to keep his voice low enough that he wouldn't disturb tRaven and Jade.

Minty ruined this, though, by bouncing up and down a couple of times and then barking out loudly, "Can I wake Jack'un up?!"

(I will reply in a few minutes; I have to go do something right quick!)

Dixie's eyes slowly opened and she mumbled, "Just five more minutes of rest," before turning over on her side, practically ignoring her mate, though that was a normal reaction from her when she was still drowsy. But her five minutes of sleep were fixing to get squandered by Raven.

The tiny black pup, awakened by Minty's loud bark, leaped to her feet, ready to start the day. She looked at Dixie, then looked at Mystery and said, "Can I wake Mommy up?" Without waiting for Mystery's reply, she pounced on Dixie's face and sank her tiny teeth into the sleeping dog's ear. Shaking her head and growling a tiny puppy growl, she finally dropped the ear and went for her mother's tail instead.

By now, Dixie was fully awake. With a weary sigh, she grabbed the little puppy by the scruff of the neck and plopped her back down in Jade's nest. The little pup was still sleeping like a rock. Yawing, her pink tongue lolled from her maw and her white, barely yellowed teeth, exposed, she stretched. Blinking a few times to chase the sleep away from her heavy brown eyes, she looked at Mystery. "Okay, I guess I'm up, now. How long've you been up?" she said, ending her statement in a question.

Mystery had opened his maw to tell Raven to stop, but was too late. Smiling to Dixie as she awoke, he shook his head. "Oh, an hour or so. Minty was trying to sneak out again," he replied, giving Mint a look. The young she-dog didn't notice, though, as she had turned her attention to Jiyaken, across the den from the family.

The great big dog was also awakened by Minty's bark, and though he still looked quite weary, he chuckled anyway at the sight of the excitable pup. "Marnin', child," he greeted, smiling as Mint went hopping across the den again. This just left Jade. "I'mma wake Jade up, too!" she screeched, and she took a flying leap at her brother.

Mystery, meanwhile, glanced out of the den, noting the lightening sky. It wouldn't be too much longer before Cerise gave the morning orders, but he figured he had a few moments longer to let Dixie and the others wake up. "Want to catch breakfast on our way out?" he asked with a wink, looking excited to have some alone time with his mate for the first time since the pups were born. ...And then he caught sight of Minty leaping at her brother, and he couldn't help but wince, knowing he would not have enough time to stop her at that point.

Dixie smiled to Jiyaken. "Morning," she greeted before turning to look at Mystery. She nodded. "Yes, I'd like that," she replied, but noticed his wince and followed his gaze. What could he possibly be wincing about? Oh, that's what. She looked just in time to see Minty pounce on Jade. The pup yowled in surprise, momentarily shocked, but leaping to his feet with a playful "grr!" sound as he did. Dixie just shook her head and laughed.
