Harli curled around her body, broke the sack, and began to lick the pup. She nosed it, and then nosed it again. It didn't move. It didnt utter a squeal, letting the surrounding dogs it was breathing. Just lay there; unmoving. Harli jerked her nose away, and leaped towards Jargo, uttering a cry of horror. Her eyes never left the pup; she panted hard.

Jargo, out of instinct, scooped the pup up and swung it around by it's rear legs. Around and around and around...
 
Swampson waited for Harli to finish, then moved in on the pup. He licked its sides vigorously, then massaged it with his nose, gently as could be. Finally, he put his ear to its side. "Still. I'm sorry," he uttered, moving the pup aside in preparation for the next to come.
